Fear, Uncertainty, Doubt. Negative information, narrative, or rumor that shakes confidence and triggers selling.

Sometimes deliberate. Someone wants price lower. Spreads scary headlines. Retail panics. They buy the dip.

Sometimes genuine. Real risk that the market hasn't priced in yet.

Sometimes just wrong. Person with no idea what they're talking about confidently predicting collapse for the fourteenth time.

All three get called FUD. Treating them the same is a mistake.

Classic FUD Lines

These have appeared so many times they're basically running jokes. Still move markets every time.

"Bitcoin is banned in China." Happened roughly a dozen times between 2013 and 2021. Each announcement caused a significant selloff. Bitcoin still exists. China still uses crypto through VPNs.

"Crypto has no real use case." Said in 2011. Said in 2015. Said in 2018. Still being said now. Billions in daily DEX volume and entire financial systems running on public blockchains suggest otherwise. Argument getting harder to make but never seems to die.

"It's all going to zero." Every bear market without exception. Bitcoin obituary website has tracked over 470 separate declarations of Bitcoin's death since 2010. Still counting.

"Tether is going to collapse and take everything with it." Years of this. Not entirely unfounded concern about reserve backing. Collapse keeps not happening though.

"The SEC is going to ban crypto." Surfaces every time the SEC files a lawsuit or makes a public statement. Markets sell off. Crypto keeps operating.

Deliberate FUD vs Genuine Concern

Important distinction that gets lost constantly.

Deliberate FUD. Someone with a position benefits from price going down. Spreads negative narrative.

Coordinated FUD campaigns. Project competitors funding negative press. Fake news articles designed to look legitimate. Coordinated social media posts appearing simultaneously. Paid accounts spreading the same narrative across multiple platforms. Organized, funded, deliberate.

Genuine concern. Real technical vulnerability. Actual regulatory action with teeth. Founder with a documented history of fraud. These deserve serious consideration. Calling everything FUD and dismissing it is how people ignore real warning signs.

Uninformed FUD. Journalist who doesn't understand crypto writing a scary headline. Traditional finance commentator dismissing the entire space. Politician making statements based on no technical understanding.

How FUD Moves Markets

Crypto markets run on sentiment more than most asset classes.

Retail heavy. Emotional participants. News travels fast through Telegram and X. Reaction time measured in minutes.

Negative headline drops. Gets amplified through groups. Panic selling starts. Price drops. More panic. More selling. By the time most people have read the actual source the move already happened.

Then the correction. Headline was overblown. Price recovers. People who sold in panic buy back higher than they sold.

Cycle repeats. Every few weeks. Same FUD, different day.
